Teahouse

[ a soft space in the Hudson Valley ]

Opened in May of 2021, Matcha Thomas was created to be a place for everyday serenity, marrying café charm with spa-like ambiance and offering clean caffeine to the community through an entirely green tea based menu.

We’re guided by Japanese tradition, hand-whisking every cup of ceremonial-grade matcha, and inspired by seasonal flavors and cultural crossovers to craft our artisanal menu items.

We’re a fast-casual concept that invites customers to slow down and recenter, even if only for a moment. Our intention is to reimagine café culture by infusing it with softness, serenity, joy, and care—exploring what it means to reclaim our peace and presence as we go about our days.

A wellness teahouse for all.

When our family embarked on the journey of bringing the teahouse to life, a major intention of ours was to pour into the local community and create easeful opportunities for compassion. Whether through our community teahouse hours where anyone can recharge and restore themselves with a free cup of herbal tea…

or our giving wall — where customers can purchase a drink for a stranger (I.e., an elderflower power for a student needing to power through finals!). We always want to ensure our work remains accessible and nutritive.

Upcoming events.

Tea ceremony, food pop-ups, creative workshops, community clubs, and more.

It has always been our intention to create a soft space in the Hudson Valley, and through regular programming and special events with local and global collaborators, we invite you to join us in bringing that sentiment to life.

  • Matcha is a finely ground powder made from green tea leaves native to Japan, primarily sourced from regions like Uji (where our matcha is from!). Unlike regular green tea, matcha is made from shade-grown leaves, which boosts their chlorophyll content and gives matcha its vibrant green color. After harvest, the leaves (known as tencha) are steamed, dried, and deveined, then stone-ground into a fine powder. This process preserves the nutrients and unique flavor profile, which is both earthy and slightly sweet. Traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, matcha is now enjoyed worldwide for its rich flavor and health benefits!

  • Did you know that pairing matcha with plant milk may enhance its absorption and benefits? Because matcha contains fat-soluble compounds like catechins and chlorophyll, plant milks, such as almond or oat milk, can aid in the absorption of these fat-soluble nutrients. Additionally, plant milk can make the matcha’s nutrients easier for the body to use, especially EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), a potent antioxidant.
